Anna Hazare has suggested that no body should be allowed to drink. The youth should be advised not to drink. If they do not accept the advice, they should be tied and flogged.
Many politicians have criticized this. However, anna had successfully abolished drunkenness in his village this way. Now he wants to extend his experiment to rest of India.
I wonder why anna is particular about youth only. The aged also drink. Why they should not be reformed similarly. Moreover if alcoholic drinks are allowed, how can people be asked not to drink. manufactured and sold/ served, how can drinking be abolished.
Alternatively, there can be a limit to number of drinks. Anybody taking more than the limit will be liable to flogging. This will need volunteers for caning the drunkards at wine bars/ shops. May be anna team could recruit volunteers for this. May be, some will like to drink more even by accepting flogging.

i think anna is going a bit too far now...india is a democratic country and every mature guy has the right to drink unless he do not violate any law...
India is a democratic country and everyone has a right to drink also. But drunkenness differs. This may be crime. In some states, there is prohibition also. Anna wants prohibition in all places. He can express his views.
In fact, at many places, people especially women are already doing what anna suggested. In Agra also, Dalit women forced authorities to close liqueur shops in their locality and also thrashed the drunkard men with sticks. The poor families suffer as the menfolk spend all money on drinking instead of family expenses. So, anna has a point.
But instead of telling government to make law, he should suggest women to check their husbands and sons, if necessary by beating. There can be a mass campaign against drunkenness and drunkards boycotted. But there should be a distinction between normal moderate and occasional drink and drunkenness.

drunkenness and drinking moderately ..how can you differ these things....moderate drinking for one guy may become drunkenness for the other...the line of discretion is too narrow...
this act by anna is just like indulging in someones privacy..unless he do not do anything wrong a man has the right to drink..

It should be realized now that anna or his team have no regard for constitution or rule of law. These are whimsical and talibani type elements. The sooner this is realized, better for all.
Lalu Yadav has also adversely commented on Anna's prescription for drunkards.
