Guru Nanak's birthday is being celebrated today. He was pioneer of Bhakti (devotion movement). He was against superstitions and orthodoxy. Once, he saw that many people were throwing water in the east. He was told that they were doing so to quench thirst of their ancestors on Shradh. Nanak began throwing water in the west. On being asked, he tole that he was doing this to water his trees in Punjab. People ridiculed him saying how could the water reach so far. He remarked that if water could reach the dead ancestors, why this could not reach his ffields in Punjab.
