Caste system is unique to Hindu community. This is also called 'varna vyavastha'. Originally, this was just a distribution of functions in society. The Brahmans were teachers, priests, guides, moral preachers and learned; Khyashtriya warriors and rulers; Vaishya traders, financiers ; Shudra were service class doing mostly low skill jobs.

This is just a way for job specialization. Even now, we see that there are families with most in medical profession or legal profession. In my family, most are connected with defence services. This is like caste system in original form Later, this became birth related and lost connection with job. So, now a Brahman may be a soldier, a Khyashtriya a teacher and so on.

Now caste system is oppressive and divisive. This has lost purpose. So, we should now abolish this and give equal opportunities to all on basis of merit irrespective of caste, creed or gender.

I am supporting this comment of Gulshanji.
people divided into different casts according to their color, costumes, habits etc

This does not appear correct. Two brothers will be of same caste even if their color and costumes differ. Presently, caste is based on birth. An individual born in Brahmin family is a Brahmin irrespective of his color or dress or manners.
I hate castes i will say one example.

When a child born in a muslim country he will be a muslim

In some conditions he come to hindu country .

he will grow in a christian family be adopting him .

Then say me which religion and which caste he belongs.

It depends on the surroundings and people around him.

Caste is a Hindu peculiarity. In this example, the Muslim child adopted by christian family in India will be without caste. If he is adopted by Hindu, his caste will be that of his foster father.
@Gulshan ji castes are not in hindu religion. They are been in muslim , chiristian and other religion also

The surnames in religions other than Hindu do not denote castes. Caste system is unique to Hindus. Here the whole society is divided in Brahmins, Khshtriya, Vaishya and shudra. Other religions may be divided in sects or on linguistic or regional basis, which differ from Hindu. Moreover, the non Hindus in India still are not free from Hindu traditions like caste.
