How it comes to this -> BASIC COST PER 1 LITER 16.50 + Center tax 11.80% + Excise duty 9.75% + Vat @ 4% + State tax 8 % = Total Rs. 50.05 + Now extra 23.35 Rs, PER 1 LITER .

Nice calculations! Price list that you have gathered is also interesting. India is country for rich people. Poors or middle class can hardly survive.

strange petrol prices are much high in India as compared to other countries . why is this so?

I think this hike of price is mainly due to corrupted Indian politicians..

Now the petrol prices are not controlled by government but fixed by petrol companies. It is necessary to reduce the consumption of petrol by discouraging personal vehicles and a good public transport system. Decrease in petrol demand alone will help reduce the petrol price.
