I don't think so. But putting animals behind the cage is very difficult for them and for us to see. Zoo authorities may or maynot properly take care of them.

Yes, I went through some local newspapers in the past where I learnt that they are often given very less food to eat and often go through hungers because of the fact that the officials and workers never used to give their share of food rather they went to the extent of stealing their foods. In a way, the animals in zoo may be likened to inmates in a jail. The jail authorities also steal food of prisoners as the zoo staff do to caged animals.
