.R. Narayana Murthy, chairman of Infosys, has argued that legalising paying bribes would help reduce endemic corruption in India.

Murthy said he fully supported proposals from economist Kaushik Basu to make paying bribes legal because this would help members of the public blow the whistle on corrupt officials.

Under Basu's proposals receiving a bribe would remain illegal.

"If bribe giving, and not bribe taking, is made legal then the bribe giver shall indeed cooperate with the authorities to expose the bribe taker," Murthy said in a speech in Ahmedabad.

Bribe giving and taking are two sides of the same coin. Bribe benefits giver and taker both. Bribe is for undue favors and hence the giver is not innocent. The suggestion is ridiculous.

There should be more stress on checking adulteration of food and medicines and checking quality of civil works. This is to ensure good health and avoid risk to life.
Instead of bribe giving, there should be hike in fees for speedy resolution of the work.It would help both, the giver will get his job done on priority basis and the organisation charging the fees will earn more revenue.Bribe taker as an individual can't considered legal for favouring anyone paying more, out of the way.
I wonder if it was at all a serious suggestion mooted by the respectable Mr.Moorthy or a tongue-in-cheek statement!
Bribe is giving is really bad. His opinion is wrong. If the famous people itself support the bribe then what about the people
I think his statement was a deliberate attempt to portray the grim reality of corruption in India!
No it should not be allowed. It will become a big problem later.
He is sensible and incorruptably honest. I think not many people understood the tone and tenor of his statement!
