Press freedom still a distant dream in Kerala

After KSRTC buses, government offices and commercial establishments, it’s journalists who are emerging as soft targets – easy prey of politicians, police and others.

Over the years the state has been witnessing frequent attacks on journalists, the latest being the one in the capital of Kerala on Thursday.

Considering that journalists have been bearing the brunt of attacks from almost all political parties, it is hard to believe whether these parties are genuine when they raise concerns over the ‘freedom of the press’.
