Why is it called shipment and cargo

Why is it that when you transport something by car, it's called a shipment, but when you transport something by ship, it's called cargo?

I don't have idea if there is some logic behind it. I think it has been a practice since last long.
Cargo means the 'goods that are transported'. 'Shipment' is the process of transporting the goods. The term 'shipment' is used for transportation of goods for export. For more exhaustive explanation, see the link:
