Russian social Democratic Party consisted of Mensheviks and Bolsheviks. Menshevik and Bolshevik are Russian terms meaning 'minority' and 'majority'. The Bolsheviks (majority) under leadership of V.I. Lenin launched a successful revolution in 1917. Later Bolsheviks were rechristened as Communist Party of soviet Union.
