They resist change in the organisation for the following causes

1.They are in a state of shock when they hear about the change
2. They are not used to such a state of change, which turns their behavior to stubborn one
3.They are not willing to change because they feel insecure/not sure that the change is the 'right' one for them
4.Some people who are plain lazy also resist the change, they dont want to change their habits/behavior/etc

:)
In a organisation people resist change because they feel insecure about the new environment. But, those who resist change don't know that change is the only thing which is constant and inevitable in this world.
There is a law called law of Inertia. Its first part states that everybody continues or tend to continue in its initial state! So is the mind of humans also!!
It's inherent in human character to oppose change. It's the main reason why most of the corporate houses employ 'change agent' to act as facilitators of change. As any sudden change evokes strongest reactions from the target groups, it is always advisable to take them into confidence and highlight the positive aspects of it.
Human psychology is like that.A change will not be accepted readily.
It is all game of perception. People feel comfortable with ongoing rules and regulations. For every change the mindset needs to change and it takes effort to adapt accordingly.Leaving that comfort level and putting oneself into new orbit is difficult as it is the human nature. If Difference between what you perceive and the outcome is in favour, the changes are welcomed and if it is against favour, it takes sometime to adjust.
The only reason I could find in this is that their selfish motive and they could think only about the things which is only going t0 benefit them rather then the organisation as a whole...
People are already adjusted with present set up and procedure. Some are beneficiary of the existing system. They resist any change out of sheer lethargy or vested interests inthe current system.
@Gulshan

You are absolutely correct! Existence of vested interest is the biggest stumbling block in this regard.
I agree with Abid. Its our human psychology which does not resist the changes readily. It takes some time.
Also when our usual practices get disturbed we feel little disturbed. But once we adjusted it will go smoothly.
People resist to change in an organisation due to the foolowing reasons.

*The salary.
*Must not work heart full.
because they are get heptual to live in the particular environment.
We human beings are afraid of anything unknown. We do not know how will the change in an organisation affect us .Hence we try to resist the change.
It happens more when you grow old in the existing organisation. The personality becomes cemented and repeated activity done on regular basis comes within the habits and comfort level develops which can't accept the change pleasantly.
The answer to WHY is quite clear from the replies. Should we discuss about the change that was brought about in CBSE IX-X patterns of schools by the education minister.Did the change deserve a support or an opposition?
Frankly I have not gone through the details and I would get back after I go through the same!
