Difference between 'recently' and 'shortly'

There is often confusion about use of word 'recent' or 'recently'. Many use this for near future as well.

'Recent' refers to past and not future. So, it is wrong to say: In the recent future. Better say: In the near future.

Good point gulshan ji, yes recently is past and shortly is about to or it is the period
