Railway Budget 2011: Passengers spared hike in fares for third year

For the third successive year, the Railway Budget for 2011-12 spared the passengers of any increase in fares and proposed no hike in freight rates while introducing 56 new trains, including nine non-stop Duronto trains and three Shatabdis.

The budget is on expected lines. There is no increase in fares. As expected, some railway projects are announced in West Bengal.
Nice to know that the fares are not effected and happy to hear about new trains..hope some maintanence projects are also added in future.
On the face of it it looks like a budget very much on expected lines.
Great going for the Indian railways and the steps and initiatives taken today by the railways would benefit the railways and the common man in the long run. Perhaps it is changing from a sick industry to a booming industry under the guidance of some recent ministers like L.P.Yadav and Mamata Banerjee.
The Railways are in red. even last budget promises are not implemented. Every year, there are declarations for luring people. If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

The railway budget provides for some projects in est Bengal. It is possible that people are benefited at some stage some time. Hope for the best.
The operating ratio is as high as more than 90%!! Where would funds come from to meet growth needs!!!
Mamatat Banerjee aimed to lure West Bengal voters by through her Railway Budget before West Bengal elections. Congratulations to West Bengal people and hope that some of the projects promised are implemented. People in other states feel neglected. She faces criticism for Pro Bengal bias. It is also complained that she has not paid attention to women safety. See more links on Rail Budget.

I think such accusations are not uncommon! The records of her predecessors were no better!!Jaffer Shariff,Nistish Kumar,Laloo Yadav et al!!
i think the Railway budget has favoured West Bengal, the demands of southern India have been neglected..
Mamta's budget is mostly for west bengal....Its is mostly for the vote bank.. And for politicians promises are made to be broken....
West Bengal Industry welcomes rail Budget. This is on expected lines.

That's good to hear that there is no increase in rates of train fares. :)

This is the 8th Railway budget of Manmohan Singh ministry. This also do not harm passengers.
I don't know why such big noises are being made about West Bengal being the biggest beneficiary of this budget! Isn't West Bengal a part of India? Is West Bengal the home of only Bengalis? I can proudly say after travelling all parts of the country that my state is less parochial than some other states.Ask anyone who has settled in my state he or she will vouch for it!!Anyone is welcome here!

This is correct. Mamata Banerjee is just repeating what predecessors did in the past.

There's nothing like trying to reserve a ticket for travel on Indian Railways as a source of annoyance
Launching a major evacuation drive, India has brought back over 530 of its nationals from strife-torn Libya by two special Air India planes
It's good for the travellers as train fares are not hiked. Most of the middle class people India travel in Trains . So it's good for their pokets.
Sumit, I really don't understand what is the relation between railway budget and two airplanes sent to Libya?
