Disturbance in Darjeeling

A regional movement may be tolerated. But movement by foreign entrants cannot be. The movement in Darjeeling is by Nepali speaking. If you tolerate this, Tibetans now refugees, may also create trouble by asking for a separate Tibetan region for them.

It start as a regional movement.Slowly it is picked up by other foreign entrants as it is the chance.

The Gorkha movement has taken very alarming turn. The tourists are being scared and driven out. The Tourism minister has advised people not to visit Darjeeling.

I think they don't follow the slogan "Athidhi devo bhava".

The situation in this part of West Bengal has been so for the past few decades which has taken a turn for the worst thanks to inept handling by both the State and Central Government.

Inept handling by state and central government is obvious. But what is the issue? Is demand of separate state or autonomous zone based on Nepali sellers justified? What if Tibetans also ask for separate autonomous zone in H.P. where they are currently in refugee status. Are BJP and some parties justified in supporting the Gorkhaland demand. These issues need answer.

What I call 'ineptness' is the inability of these two governments in saying a firm 'no' to the demand.Those who have been watching the events in the hilly parts of West Bengal are well aware how the Left Front Government earlier headed by late Jyoti Basu and now Bhuddhadev Bhattacharjee has been trying to buy peace by striking compromise deals.Which has apparently emboldened the Morcha leaders to indulge in worst forms of anarchy.And now national level political party like BJP is trying to fish in troubled waters of Darjeeling!

I fully support the views. I think similar mistake in J & K is encouraging terrorists and separatists.

The danger of appeasing separatists are clearly visible. Gorkha homelamd leader is threatening bloodshed if he is arrested. The government should be strict and tell him that there is only one Gorkhaland and that is Nepal. If he wishes, he may leave for Nepal.
