Hey Deepti, Thanks a lot for sharing such a valuable point here..
I really didn't know about it..

Well I agree, we should drop this custom now..

Aastha Gupta
Yes astha... I do watch many small kids throwing coins into the river....

Even I too used to follow this, when I was small

As in olden days, there used to be only river as their source of drinking water.... So the people used to make it more healthier way to drink water from river :)

Thanks 'n' Regards,
Deepti.
If we have to follow the custom, we can throw the copper pieces into the river ,instead of throwing the non-copper coins. :)

Ooooo Kumaresh!

I thought some other answer would be there from your side..
Something like:
" I am not selfish... I want all my society to be healthy...So would drop copper pieces in river."

:P:P:P :) :)

Unexpected from expected one....

Throwing coins into the river is increasing begging habits.
& Begging is not good for the society.. :) { So my answer was for the welfare of society :laugh: :laugh: }

Have you seen the crowd of boys standing/swimming down the bridge to catch the coins which people are going to throw?

I have seen it many times :)

YEs.. thats right Kumaresh :)

Thanks 'n' Regards,
Deepti.
The coins are still thrown on the assumption that when the river dries up, they are collected by fishermen and others.

But now, the urchins and beggars take advantage, especially at rivers in the northern parts of the country..
Not only at the northern parts Sridevi... they are collected by beggars in South India too... I have seen many!!!!!!

Thanks 'n' Regards,
Deepti.
