U.S., Japanese Scientists Share Nobel Prize for Chemistry

Three scientists will share the 2010 Nobel Prize in chemistry for a discovery that allows hard-to-match carbon to bind to other molecules using a metal called palladium. This allows certain materials that normally only reproduce in nature to be replicated in larger quantities in a lab.

American Richard Heck and Ei-Chi Negishi and Akira Suzuki, both of Japan, all made the same discovery independently, and will thus share the award this year.
