I am not sure if India is promoting nude scenes in films since our censor rules are still quite ancient and strict , do not permit showing nude scenes in films besides many other things...

There are many formalities to be fulfilled before the movie is released. If there are vulgar scenes which the censor board feels such movies harm the society, they will be cut or the Movie will not be permitted for showing for the public. Can you come up with an evidence substantiating your claim that India is allowing nude scenes?

India is perhaps not as bad as some other countries are. However if one feels the movies are not to their taste, they can avoid going to to them. As far I am concerned I have not visited a cinema hall for last 19 years.

I'm yet to come come across with an Indian movie with nude scenes unless it is a movie like "Kama Sutra". Even such movies are subjected to severe cuts or may be completely banned.

In fact they cut scenes even from foreign films which are against the censor board rules and as a result we dont get to see many good serials and films because of this reason.....Nudity is not worse than some of the other suggestive  scenes shown in our films

Censor Board follows a set of rules of their own. The Censor Board will not see whether whether Nudity is better than suggesive scenes or not its concern. The Movie  Siddhartha enacted by Simi Garewal was subjected to severe cuts where both nudity and suggestive facts are involved. Siddhartha was banned in some territories too in some territories.

In Fact our main problem is double meaning dialogues, language used and gestures.

Even double en-tenders or suggestive gestures are subjected to severe cuts by the Central Censor Board. Such movies are issued A certificate before releasing the Movie.

What is wrong in showing a nude scene if the script demands it. Why prudes dislike the beautiful human body including their own.After perhaps enjoying a nude scene the member is now shouting hoarse? WHY?????????????????. 

It depends on the Society. Censor Board will act in accordance to the Indian Society. Siddhartha enacted by Sime Garewalnhas been banned because of frontal nudes .

In the seventies there was a huge blue film industry in Kerala and elsewhere where near pornography was shown and there was  hardly any censorship.Of course the films must have been cheap, vulgar and sleazy unlike the western movies where you don't squirm or look the other way when the nude or intimate scenes are shown. I guess most Indians identify nude with the sleaze show that was and I am sure is still rampant here....I still see some posters for movies in the newspapers with the most suggestive titles like Miss Lovely , Bhayanak Hawas !!!! LOL... It is more laughable than titillating !

It is certainly not the policy of government of India or any ruling party to promote nudism. There is a censor Board to ensure that there is no vulgarity or obscenity in movies. It is more a matter of public like and dislikes. In ancient times also, nudity was not an issue of art like Ajanta and Khajuraho.  It is wrong to say that 'India promotes nudity'. such language can be used when there is deliberate govt. action.  We also needto distinguish between nudity as art form and vulgarity. M. Hussain painted many nude images but these werenot vulgar.

True Usha,...the titles of such films are so gross and lurid such as Jalti Jawani etc. There is also quite a fine line between nudity as art and vulgarity and Bollywood and other Indian films normally fail to keep the distinction between the two. Even many films which have been rated with  U certificate contain quite suggestive scenes and song numbers which are very inappropriate for children and yet they receive U cert. Eg. the Kaate nahin katate song in Mr. India in which Shridevi is seen dancing so suggestively and provocatively in a wet chiffon saree. A totally nude or intimate scene in a Hollywood is not even half as provocative as the Sridevi's song. So it is not simply a question of nudity but more of how well the scene is presented.

Yes Kalyyani, there are any number of such songs in south Indian films - Malayalam, Telugu etc...I have seen one such very vulgarly picturised song on Chiranjeevi and Naghma, which was quite disgusting !

India is pretty tame as far as sex scenes are concerned compared to western nations and Japan as well as Thailand. This is because we still have some psychological hangups on nudity, forgetting that Tantra recognises sex as one of the paths to god. There are 22 ( out of 84) surviving temples at Khajuraho which depict explicit sex scenes. Indians must grow up and personally I think this topic does not merit much discussion. In no way is any nudity promoted. The sleaze and blue film industry is different.

There is no need to watch a film that has nudity with your teenage children since it would have an A certificate anyway ...Even otherwise why should one watch each and every film with their children? 

The A certificate restrictions is a mockery. There are many theaters who will not bother about A certificate restrictions. What all one needs to have is an understanding with the Gate Keeper of a cinema Hall.
