yes, thiruvananthapuram is a lengthy name    18 letters

I now remember a funny incident that took place while I was doing my degree course.
we were invited for a house warming ceremony of our classmate. We all gathered at Neyyattinkara bus stand and her home was at 'Puruthivila' ......If we translate it means.....'Pineapple place'
one of the boys collected bus fair from all of us to take tickets together. then he asked, "What's the place name?"
"Puruthivila", someone answered.
You should have seen his face. He gave all those collected money to the person who told the place name and said, "You take the ticket. Take one for me too!" :cheer: :cheer:
He was not able to pronounce it correctly as he was hearing it for the first time.
another wit......when one girl heard the name of the place, she asked, "Will we get a puruthichakka(pine apple) for 4 rs? " :S :S

read my previous post..I have added a joke.

Thiruvannathapuram means the place/city where Vishnu lays on thiru ananthan. :cheer:
derived from Sree Padmanabha temple. Lord Vishnu is in Ananthashayanam position and we can't see him through a single door full. we need to see him parts by parts through 3 doors placed in front......such a big idol.

British gave it the name Trivandrum......but in 1991, it was changed to Thiruvannathapuram officially. Yet, for convenience people say so. But the meaning of the word is lost.....what does it mean...Tree...van...drum
