Tamil is one of the languages recognized in Indian constitution and so one may take oath in Tamil. What is significant that another M.P. namely Pratap Singh Rudi of BJP took oath in Bhojpuri- a Bihari dialect. But Bhojpuri is not recognized. Hence, his oath in Bhojpuri being invalid, he had to again take oath in Hindi.
The members have the right to take oath in any Indian language including English. This is not so important. What they contribute in debates and other public activities is more important.

It is perfectly okay to take oath in any language so far as rules permit. But the language issue should not overshadow the real problems that the M.P.s should discuss. In all fairness, English should be used in Parliament and regional languages, including Hindi, in state assemblies.
Tamil is mother of all languages in the world'
COIMBATORE: The Tamil language is older than Sanskrit and is "the mother of all languages in the world," said Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi on Wednesday.
Setting the stage for an academic debate on the antiquity of Tamil language at the World Classical Tamil conference in Coimbatore, the CM said more than 20 Tamil words had been found in Vedas by linguist Robert Caldwell, who coined the term Dravidian languages and first declared Tamil as a classical language.
"From this we learn that Tamil had an existence prior to Sanskrit," the CM said.
"Tamil is not only an international language, it is like a mother of all languages in the world,"' he said. Tamil scholar Devaneya Pavanar had established that Tamil is the primary classical language of the world, he said.
"Root Tamil words exist in many languages of the world in various modifications but retaining the semantic meaning. In the world languages, it is difficult to find a basic word that does not have some link with the Tamil word. Hence, Tamil has the status of the mother tongue in the world," the CM said.

Kumaresh- Mother is closes to baby and so she is first teacher. That is the language first picked up by a child is his mother tongue.
Instead of mother tongue, we may also use the phrase- 'first language'. Although Punjabi is my mother tongue, I am more at home with Hindi. so, I say that Hindi is my first language and English second.
