It looks like another character from Devnagari character set, a currency symbol should be distinctive. At small font size, it will be very confussing.

Why a horizontal bar at the top of a currency symbol??? ridiculus. If it is omitted, it will look like a mix between English and Devnagari R.
Its cool..

It seems to be mixture of hindi र and english letter R

But it is beautiful.
Don't have prejudice for devnagri! Sajeetharan..

They have selected some symbol . if it is matching with devnagari. Why you have objection?

Be open minded dear.
Yes. Symbol is nice. Hope everybody likes this symbol.

Finally Indian Rupee got the symbol. Cheers
The designer D. Uday kumar is from South.
And still he prefered Devnagiri script.
So you have one example of open minded person that is Mr. D Uday Kumar.

By the way, Can you tell Sajeetharan! What is your objection with Devnagiri? Why you are against it? Why are you making it a big issue?
Oh! This is good news...
Mix of Roman and Devanagari Script... Good to know this.. :)

Thanks for sharing Meean.. :)
@kumaresh

am not against it, am not making it as an issue.

another example of lack of understanding of Indian diversity.

They cud have cobbled up mixture of "dravidian" and devnagari script
Its good our Indian currency got a new way of identification mark and Indian currency is the now 5th currency who have its identification mark at international standards.
Hey.., Finally our Indian Currency got a new Identification exposing our culture.
It is great news and happy to know that. The symbol is somewhat good but in computer it will be difficult to type..
I think it will be included as special symbol.

Or

Indian keyboard can have separate key for the Indian currency.

or

Both
This is indeed a good news Meean!! India has now joined the "Currency Club" is the fifthe country in the world to have a special symbol for its currency!!

Design-wise and identity-wise, both ways it looks good!!

By the way Sajeetharan, Devnagari script is derived from Sansrkit and Dravidian languages are too derived from Sanskrit. So your comment "another example of lack of understanding of Indian diversity" not at all relevant!!
Really the new Symbol is create..

Thankss to meeaan for sharing it with everyone..

also thanks to those IIT guys
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Well :)

I am feeling great to see patting IIT guys :)
The Rupee symbol is fine. Once selected, we have no option but to accept it. Now this is national, whatever be the source of script- Devnagri or Tamil or Roman. As regards printing of the symbol on computer, the experts will sort out the matter.
Yes Gulshan!

Whether any body like it or not ! We should accept it and should not make a big issue. There are a lot of social, economic issues which need a lot of attention.
Kumaresh- The symbol accepted is national and deserves all respect. I agree with you. This is not an issue at all.
The new symbol looks nice............

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Its good to have an international identity for our currency... symbol is also nice.
