According to a study the melting glaciers in the Himalayas as a result of global warming would badly affect our food security.It is estimated that 1.4 billion people depend on water from Indus,Ganges,Brahmaputra,Yangtze and Yellow rivers.The reduced flow of water would threaten the food security.

This is very alarming!! Apart from threat to food security, it also poses great danger to human civilization in the basins of these rivers! I remember having read about an island in the Brhmaputra river, I don't remember the name, but that it is slowly sinking into the ever-widening flow of the Brahmaputra and the villagers are now left homeless and have lost their fields too! :(

Just yesterday one of my acauaintances came back visting Badrinath and whatever he told me was a confirmation of this report of this study.He has been visiting it for the last 25 years.
