RAJAHMUNDRY: Once critical, Vetamamidi mini-hydel project, located about 70 kms from here, would earn a unique distinction of being managed by tribals in East Godavari district, president of the project committee said.The 1.20 MW power project on Eleru canal is the first of its kind to be maintained by Tribal Project Committees, specifically trained for the purpose by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) at Rampachodavaram.

The Ministry of Renewable Energy has extended 60 per cent subsidy to the project and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) a 40 per cent loan to the total expenditure of Rs 8 crore.

"The trial run of the project was done in April and so far 76,641 units were generated," project committee president B Satyavathi said.
