The ever increasing population needs more clothes, schools, products and services. Every need needs land. The land is obviously limted. We had seen this problem in West Bengal. Tata had to abandon Nano car project there.

In U.P., the demand of land for Express way has created a violent agitation. The farmers are very agitated on issue of land and compensation.

It is time we stop mad race for development and industrialization and preserve land for agriculture, forests and wild life.

The issue has been agitating the minds of the thinking section of our society for too long and the current agitation which has engulfed parts of UP and threatening to spread to other areas should not be treated as a mere law and order problem. There has to be balance between meeting developmental needs and needs of our farmers. More important is the compensation package.
Majority of people in India depends on agriculture and if destruction and misuse of land goes on at the present rate in the name of development and industrialization then surely the day is not very far when we have to pay a big price for it...
It is right that allocation of land is an issue. But when it came in earlier years we had passed some laws about the holding of land by individuals.

The issue is not legal provisions so much. The issue is that our population is increasing and life style needs consumption of more commodities. All this creates demand for land for various industrial, education, business, residential, transportation, development purposes. Consequently, land for forests and agriculture goes on shrinking. The farmers and Adivasi suffer when their land is taken from them often without adequate compensation. Even if the compensation is proper, they are left with no alternate job and soon spend the compensation money on various luxuries. Some of them divert to criminal activities.

The root cause of all evil is population and there seems to be hardly any way to reduce it. It is also a bare fact that the farmers in poverty has to sell their lands to meet the bare necessities of their day to day lives without realizing the fact that it would mean dooms day for them....Really it's a big problem all the way down there...

Not only poverty, but also the farmers are forced to give their land for various government projects and industry for compensation that is much below market. Even if the compensation is adequate, the farmers become landless and jobless so that many of them waste the money received as compensation on luxuries. A few years later this money also finishes.

What is the solution for this problem then?Deforestation or population control?
