Asking people to vote for a change, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged people not to vote for Independent candidates.

Describing the Independents as “agents of CPI(M)”, she said they had tied up with the party to prevent the Trinamool-Congress alliance from forming the next government.

Mamata Banerjee is well known for making any unsubstantiated statements and utterances. The independents may be just Congress and Trinmool dissidents. What has CPI(M) to do with them. It is for Congress and Trinmool to keep their own house in order. Such perverse logic will lead her to dub all her opponents as CPI(M) agents.

Independents are better than other parties. But when it comes to doing something for their constituency they fall behind because it is difficult to get any big project due to dirty politics.
Independents candidates are better, thanks for the information and the link

The purpose of elections is to elect members to assembly for forming a government. The independents have no role in forming a government. They only bring instability. The parliamentary system depends on political parties. If you feel that the existing ruling party is not performing, you may elect other. But independents have no role. Democracy depends on political parties and not on independents who only blackmail the big parties in case of hung assembly.

Yes, I too feel that there will be a change in Bengal and Trinamool is going to replace the CPIM. Independent parties are really not dependent and nobody can forecast their action,.

I appreciate the comments. In a parliamentary system, the voters have alternative to senda particular party or alliance to form government. Independents and small parties do nothing except confuse and blackmail. In West Bengal, people have sent Left Front to power for record period of more than thirty years. This goes to their credit. Most of people have not seen any other party in power. Left Front also does not have experience of sitting in opposition. So, if there is change, it will be better for all. The people will also have experience of how a non left government works. Trinmool will learn how a responible ruling party shgould work. The left will also get some experience about role of opposition.
