Should the globally widespread Patel community of Gujarat be given OBC reservation for which they are agitating?t

According to your thread, Patels are reasonably well off.

 If Patels are economically well off and politically influential in Gujarat, I'm all against Patel agitation for OBC. This agitation is meaningless and uncalled for.

I advocate reservation for economically backward. Caste based reservations will create distance between communications.

Not only in USA but all over the world Patels are known for their entrepreneurship. I have seen them fill the telephone directories and yellow pages of business community whichever country I visited right from Africa to Canada and Australia to Maldives.

As far reservation is concerned, I am of the opinion, either all reservation should go or all be included irrespective of cast and creed.  The only criteria for any reservation is ability, the qualification and there is no other way this country will come out of petty politics that we are witnessing in the name of vote bank today.

Today you have Patels and Jaats influential communities with land and money tomorrow it will be Thakurs, Pandits and Baniyas (The only casts left) so give them all the facilities of reservation in one go and settle the issue forever. That will help reduce the political chaos too.

Reservation for skilled, ability to contribute to the society should be only basis. Cate based reservations split the country. Patels movement for reservations in OBC is unjustified.

Patels are a very enterprising community and almost all of them are successful entrepreneurs in various fields. I have a friend from this community who is a member of a large group of this community, all of those people are very rich construction contractors. Why do they even need reservation?

Not only Patels, all are habituated to have freebies. So, there is no wonder despite being in an economically strong condition Patels too demand for reservations. Reservations are a plague to this country. These Reservations split the country on caste basis.

Reservation should be based on Economical condition and not be on the basis of Community basis.

I agree. Reservations should be based on economic  condition. People who are in a better condition despite being in a reserved cadre are not justified to demand a  reservation in OBC.

It has become almost a fashion for the infinite number of communities to demand reservation. In truth, the communities which really need reservation for viable reasons are unable to get it, one such community is the Dhangar community in Maharashtra, which is the community of shepherds, they really need it and they do not get it while others do. Again this agitation by Patels is alleged to be because the madam of Janpath st. has ordered so.

There seems some political strength behind Hardik, else he was not able to gather a huge crowd in few days. It looks he wants quick entry in politics. But for this he and his supports are spreading violence in Gujrat, that is not a correct way.

The views given in the link by the author may be true to some extent. May be he was back supported by some political party to demolish the reservation based on community basis. But may be he was back supported by opposition parties to weaken the current government in Gujrat.

A support from the dissident parties and politicians is always there. And this point is also mentioned in the link article among several other reasons.

 

As long as ever increasing reservation mania is not stopped, there is no end for demands from various sections of society. Instead of making any progress, govt. will be busy with settling such demands only.  In fact, there needs be no reservation in jobs. Education should be free and uniform for all and so no reservation. 

Reservations were created to create vote Banks. This is an evil that splits the country in to shreds. The country should be saved from this plague at the earliest.

One can clearly see that it is politically motivated or else how can a youngster who one can see is quite lost at times lead an agitation ? Personally I am against any kind of reservations which has been the undoing in our country. The only reservation if at all should be merit cum means to help out poor students who are good at studies...This kind of arm twisting should never be allowed !

Merit should be recognized in a befitting manner without grouping and linking with the word RESERVATIONS. This is the only panacea for this country which was broken in to shreds by the erstwhile governments on the Name of Reservations.

Merits needs no reservation, the day all unworthy will stop getting undue advantage the merit will speak for itself.

Rewards and honors come in search of Merit. Merit doesn't need credentials.

It is obvious any agitation leads to destruction of the Government property. Anyhow latest news says that extra par military forces are deployed to curb the Patel Agitation.
