Geeta Dutt was a beautiful lady with a sensational voice . She was born today iin the year 1930....She was born in Faridpur a place which is now in Bangladesh and was one of the leading playback singers of the hindi film industry during the fifties and sixties...She met, fell in love and married the great film maker Guru Dutt .
Personally, I am a great fan of her voice and songs and am saddened by the tragic life she lead. This eventually made her an alcoholic and was the root cause of her early demise. However there are no two opinions about the fact that Geeta was an extremely talented singer who will be remembered along with other greats like Lata Mangeshkar,Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi ,Kishore Kumar,Manna dey and others..

After reading this forum, I collected some hits songs of Geeta Dutt, and surprised to find a beautiful voice and in some songs she sang more beautifully, by lataji.
That is great ! You can get almost all her songs on youtube and now there are softwares to convert the videos into MP3 files so one can cllect as many songs as possible... :)
O.P.Nayyar and S.D.Burman were the two composers who were instrumental in bringing Geeta Dutt into Hindi films,she used to earlier sing in Bengali films...Mera Sundar Sapan beeth gaya was her first major hit, composed by SDB ...
Her last song sung under the baton of SDB was in Ziddi, "main trer pyaar mein kya kya na bana dilwar" , a duet with Manna Dey.

Kamal Barot had a baby voice which sounds very cute but for limited songs only...However, frankly I cannot stand Salma Aghas voice since it sunds too cultivated not at all natural like our old singers...Geeta of course was the best among the lot....According to many music experts Noorjehan had the perfect female voice but that again was in the old times.With changing times music and also preference of the public has changed ...

Yes Kamal Barot's voice sounds childish. I remember her duet with Mukesh, Na Jaane Chand Kaise hoga.. And her other duet, hasta hua noorani chehera from Parasmani.

I agree that she has sung some of her best songs for Madhubala in films like Mr and Mrs 55,Police, Half ticket....In my opinion, the duet Udhar tun hassen ho from Mr and Mrs 55 is one of Geeta dutt's best duets ever ...and Police had beautiful duets with Hemant Kumar
