Last year it did go down to 57 odd rupees to a dollar but recovered and came up to Rs 52 odd...But now it has been steadily going down and reached Rs 56.65 to a dollar yesterday and may go down to lower levels..

Latest news says that rupee has gone down to a 11 month low.. Strengthening dollar, rising oil and gold imports are but a few reasons for the continuous decline of the rupee.
It is trend once $ reach at maximum rate it will starts decline. Wait for two month rupee will improve.
The growth rate under UPA has been the worst ever and that itself will drive the value of rupee down, also we are having so many scams and other unsettling news throughout the country, added to which is the coming general election which seems like a hopeless scenario with none of the parties really looking strong..
it's making my wallet fee bad as more money is going out to purchase fewer dollars but a good news is that Australian $ is also going down.

scams is also cause of undergrowth, another reason for it is government is distributing public fund for their politics interest. MAHANAREGA and some other plan are its examples. Public are getting money without doing any work.
This rupee slide has benefited me as most of my income is in dollars, but personally I want rupee to stabilize. It is not good for our economy. I just hope it does not touch new low levels.

The same case here, it has been ood to me since most of my online earnings are in dollars and the conversion rate is good now...but, as you say it is definitely not good for our economy and I sincerely hope that the government is doing something constructive about it !

The main reason is heavy selling by foreign institutional investors. It has created a fear that RBI would go slow on cutting rates.
