This is indeed very inhuman. The Irish law against abortion is to prevent killing of life that is womb. But there is no sense to observe rigidity that in fact kills the mother to save the child in womb. when one death is certain, life of the mother should have been saved.
Very true, what is heartening is that now after this tragedy happened , many citizens from Ireland and even from England are protesting against this and are putting pressure on the government of Ireland to modify their laws so that life is given more importance than religion...

No, humanity doesn't need such religion. What for these religions are? For whom these religions are meant for?
Within hours of Savita's hospitalization on October 21, doctors determined that she was miscarrying.Over the next three days, they refused requests for a termination of her fetus to ease her surging pain and fading health. The dead fetus was later removed and Savita was taken to the high dependency unit and then to the intensive care unit, where she died of septicemia on October 28.
Savita is supposed to have said- 'I am neither Irish nor Catholic' , but the consultant replied there was nothing they could do,"

Humanity needs no religion. The religions mean- no justice and no fair play. Humanism is best. What happened in Ireland is blatant breach of human rights. They killed a living adult woman to save a child yet to be born. It is aptly said that law is blind. Presently each country acts according to own law. Others are also supposed to follow land of the law. But when no person in the particular country is involved, there is no sense in law of land. The woman was neither Irish nor any citizen of Ireland was involved. Then why should the Irish law apply to her? It is high time international community rises to need of framing common rules for people moving to different countries on Visa.
This is not a rule made individually either by a doctor or the hospital, but the country itself which is Catholic in its belief and Catholism is against abortion...
I think other western country do follow Catholism but they do not have any strict rules against abortion. This is inhuman act indeed.

Hope not ! however unless a case similar to this presents itself one can never be sure how the authorities would react...all said and done it is cruelty and totally inhuman , almost a murder in the name of religion!
When I was going through this piece in my morning paper, I literally shivered in utter disgust ! Is Ireland a civilized a nation? - that is the relevant question!
I agree, it is the height of cruelty and insensitivity...Just imagine such a thing happening in a country like that, it is almost like the medieval times , barbaric !

I do not think any religion in the world is above life. Religions are the powerful tools which streamline us towards honest and noble life.

Religions never encourage or said to kill innocent peoples. It always helps the people to be in peace and it teaches to live a peaceful life. Its purely a cold blooded murder.

All Religions teach peace ! Religions are man made institutions and the main purpose of their being there is to regulate human behavior, whereas man has interpreted it the way he/she wants it and while doing that people dont realise that they are going against everything they hold sacred through their religion!

Religion has been interpreted and twisted a number of times to suit the needs and selfish gains of only a handful few, those few who lead any sect or community of all religions in the world and the common people who do not have access to the actual scriptures and are able to understand the meaning simply follow what their leaders dictate! In this instance, it is a very unfortunate and sad to read that the poor woman had to pay with her life just because the church is against the abortion. I personally feel that it is no longer just a religious case but a criminal case for compromising a woman's life in such manner!

Yes kalyani, It is nothing but murder in the name of religion and thankfully many countries are showing their disgust and sshock vocally at what has happened, but a precious life of a young woman is lost and how do they compensate for that? Nad no one can be held individually responsible either, that is the sad part...

I really wonder how the Catholic church heads in Ireland are keeping silent on this issue, after all it is their stout devotion in catholic principles that has taken the life of a young woman, her death can in no way be compensated for, that is a harsh fact. But the least that can now be done is severely punish those who are responsible for it, it can bring some kind of closure to her family at least. Also, where medical treatment is concerned, in countries like Ireland, there should be strict rules and laws made where religion is not allowed to interfere with the medical protocol! Where abortion is necessary to save a woman's life, it should be carried out without any fear, Church cannot dictate what goes on in the hospitals!
