I remember that in 1998 when mobile was making its way, this was kind of status symbol and most used it very sparingly and carefully, now no one cares much and even children are well aware of its use.
Motorola was the first company to make the mobile phone
Yesterday i went to a hill station named ''kolli malai'' there is no tower there. Every one use only land line. No one there has mobile phones. :cheer:

Oh but its very rare case in most of the villages people use mobiles more than the land line phones. :)

I remember i also used to see people carrying mobiles but could never bought it till 2002 when i bought my first mobile of Motorola which was too heavy if we compare it with the present mobile handsets. :)
When I also purchased first then outgoing charge was also cut.But now even piasa is credited to your balance while you will received a call.
I was lucky to have one even in 1998 provided by company but that was limited to check the incoming number and call back through land line. I only used it in extreme conditions.

I remember my father had a pager way back in 1992~93 when we used to message him on it for any urgent thing. But we actually saw mobiles in 2000 when my father got it from the company. :)
That was really costly, I was using a escotel connection that was like 12/a minute calling and incoming. Later they reduced it to 9.90/minute. and 2 slots, 1 minute and half minute.
Some people do have caller tunes...and my mother do have it.....which changes automatically once in 10 days....we don't know how that was set in mobile....
A nice incident...
Last month when I called her, I was shocked when it was singing..."Why this kolaveri di" :woohoo: :woohoo: till she picked up the phone.
No one know how to change it and after 10-15 days, it automatically changed to a Malayalam hit of last year...Thank God
