Friends here I start a thread that will add many knowledge to your memory.We are living in different states of India.All of you might know the peculiarities of different cities in your state.Let us collect them and share here.

Rules:-

1) You say a city name and tell its importance in history or any other thing which make it different from others.

2) A city name can be repeated to tell another fact.But same facts can't be repeated.

3) There is no need to say about cities of your state only.You can say about other cities also.

Let me to start.

Count 1:

My home city is Calicut (Kozhikode)

It was at Kappad near Calicut that the first foreigner to India ,Mr.Vascodagama from Portugal landed. It was in AD 1498

Nilambur , another place in my District.

Here is the World's oldest Teak plantation known as "Kanoli Plot". It was cultivated by Britishers.

Pondicherry it is an union territory and it is the first French colony in India. Joseph François Dupleix became the Governor of the French Territory in India on 15 January 1742 and brought Madras also under French control in September 1746 and ruled it for 30 years.

I am at Agra- the city of Taj. Agra was once capital of Mogul Emperors. The famous buildings/ monuments are Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur sikri and Etmadudolah. The important products are Petha (a kind of sweets) and shoes.

LUCKNOW :
According to popular legend, Lord Ramchandra gifted the territory of Lucknow to his devoted brother Lakshman after he had conquered Lanka and completed his term of exile in the jungle. Therefore, people say that the original name of Lucknow was Lakshmanpur, popularly known as Lakhanpur or Lachmanpur.

KOdungallore known as Crangannore earlier and Musris in ancient time is a city in Trichur district of Kerala State.Here is the famous Cheraman Masjid which was the first Masjid built in India.

Chennai:


St. George Fort is located on the banks of Bay of Bengal. It was built by the British East India Company in 1640 AD. The fort is believed to be the first establishment of the British in India. It is a military architecture marvel, which was erected as a trading post.

Kamaraj Memorial House:

Kamaraj Memorial House is dedicated to a famous politician and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri MG Ramachandran Kamaraj. This monument is open daily and the visiting hours are from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Edakkal in Wayanad of Kerala.

It is a cave where some rock scripts are seen.The same scripts are seen in Egypt only.So there is a chance of relation between these people!!!
Visakhapatnam, the city of destiny and 2 nd largest city in Andhra pradesh is a distrct admininstrative center and has a port(both seaport and airport:), shipbuilding factory, harbour and,oil refinery . Also known for its beaches and resorts, Araku valley and kailash giri are good tourist spots.
