Cow's direct milk are used and available only in villages and small towns these days. Rest of the people are using packet milk. Can someone tell me what is the difference between the two?
@Meean, milk directly taken from cow and used immediately can termed as whole milk on which no processing whatsoever has been done. Whereas the milk that we normally get in the form of packets or bottles has been pasteurized. Pasteurization, the process named after Louis Pasteur, is carried out to reduce the number of viable pathogens in milk so they are unlikely to cause any diseases. Another variety of milk in packets now availble is skimmed milk, wherein fats are removed from milk so that the milk contains less calories. Trust this is helpful to you.
A cow's direct Milk contains a lot of bacteria and viruses that may cause us harm if we drink directly.Keenly observed, cow's milk spoils in 4 hours.
Packet milk is the same cow milk collected in large quantities and pasteurized;so the count of bacteria is reduced and it can be safe for consumption. In other way, packet milk is a form of preservation of normal cow milk.
Pertaining to the liking of the customer; these processed milk undergoes various changes in the fat percentage reduction from whole milk- 6% fat reduced to 'Toned milk-3% fat' to 'double toned milk-1.5% fat' and 'skimmed milk-0.5%fat'. Because of the reduction of the fat molecules, milk appears a little less tasty and more watery, thats where we feel that 'water' has been added.
Regarding the chemicals, milk farmers/cowherds when they bring their milk produce to the milk collection center, tend to add chemicals like sodium carbonate to make the milk look 'whole' so they can earn more money and also that the milk may not get spolit by the time they reach the milk collection center. From the milk collection center, the milk is transferred to milk processing plant where the process of pasteurization and packaging is done.In all these, the temperature is maintained at 5 degrees Celsius.
Trust brands like 'Heritage','Nestle',etc in case of packet milk.Milk in cartons/Tetra packs have undergone a process called 'Ultra Heat Treatment' where the milk is passed through higher temperature than the pasteurization temperature so that the major bacteria and viruses are killed and they can stay 'afresh' for minimum 90 days.
Yes... Its a good piece of information...
But in the recent times.. I have read the news that in the recent times there are some chemicals used in the making of the packets....
nobody died so far by drinking milk directly. But the packet milk contains lot of chemicals and some packets from TN sold in kerala found the dreaded bacteria e.colli. So I prefer cows milk instead of packet one.
