Because of the lack of money for the girl child to give dowry in future. Lack of inheritance if girl child is born.
Ours has been a male-dominated society for ages and still some prejudices and bias are active.Although things are changing very slowly.
Because of dowry it has become for the middle and poor people a big problem so they are killing girl child after birth

What puzzles me is the fact that even some educated girls play a silent role in the practice of dowry!
Girls are treated as a means of expense only. That is why they are ill treated. Our social system had added much to this problem.

The social system and beliefs are anti feminine. The girl is considered as 'paraya dhan' (others' property) to be eventually handed over to other namely would be husband. Dowry system also adversely affects women. The society is male dominated and woman is supposed to assume a junior position in society and family.

We are going through a transitional phase. Women are progressively getting better status.

It's very correct to call it a passing phase and I am sure thing would progressively get better and better!
One of the reasons behind the injustice done to girl child in India is that the family and family name goes by boy child, and the girl gets married and to the other house and the is considered as the guest in many houses

The reasons behind injustice are fabulous dowry and she has to leave the parents house after marriage....
It is done as Indian parents have more affinity with their son. However, it is not done by the educated and well to do families now a days.
