To control one's emotions ,,one should have a strong and calm heart which can be achieved by meditation and yoga.

Excessive anger, fear and love are emotional outbursts. Right attitude may help controlling emotions. Anger is the most vicious emotion. You need analyze your anger. Anger is a result of frustration of your expectations. It is not prudent to have unreasonable expectations. You may get angry because others' opinion differ. This is also frustration of expectation. You may have your viewpoint but others also independent persons with distinct views.
Thus, the best way to control emotions is not to expect too much from others or even self. Be reasonable and patient. emotions will be controlled.

Tips to avoid excessive anger..If someone makes you anger,first listen and be quite for some time.Don't argue or speak anything that you are right, even if you are right and honesty.

First, it depends on how touchy and emotional you are.If you are very much emotional, you need to keep distance with others and not allow everyone to enter your private or personal space.Secondly,people around you may not be that gentle and good to you.Being with them for long time or with different set of people, you learn how to control it.
When I went for MBA,I used to cry on small issues as anyone could hurt me. But those two years have taught me a lot along with other 8 years that I have spent in different organisations.

The best way to control anger is just lay down for 5 minuts when anger comes.But it is impossible in normal cases!
