Arundhati Roy says- Maoists are a sort of patriots. Nobody has said ever that Maoists are not patriots. No body doubts their integrity. The relevant consideration is their style of politics. It will be better that she advises them to come to main stream, participate in parliamentary politics and play a constructive role to clean the politics of immoral and anti people elements constitutionally. I think they are moved aside by our own leaders and that is why they are taking actions like those.

Arundhathi Roy has gone nuts. She is always trying to gain publicity by taking up some controversial issues.
The very term 'patriot' admits of so many explanations and interpretations but I agree their brand of plotics serves none!

Chinmoy, it is true that for people like us who reside in cities with most of the amenities provided for by the Government! But for people living in the remote areas such as those infested by Maoists - I can't say for all areas in the rest of the state, but in many regions of Maharashtra that are close to borders of Karnataka, it is the naxalites who have taken the responsibility of administration of the people in various remote villages, something that the govt. has failed to do!

Which is probably the reason why they have support of common people! Where government has failed to provide security, it is these so-called terrorists that have done the job!

So far, no body has said that Maoists are not patriots. It is simply alleged that they are working unconstitutionally and subverting the system.
Secondly, if nay one declares war against the state, he is considered a traitor according to law even if he may be in his own views working for people. The Maoists have declared war against Govt. by law established and accordingly, they are not patriots in legal sense.

It is true that they are against law.But I think they do not oppose all laws.

Maoists do not oppose all law. In fact, nobody will oppose everything. Always something is in common. That is why, it is possible to hold talks.

However, the Maoists are considered as opposed to law, because they have declared war against Government established by law. The people are represented by Government. Thus a war against government is in fact a war against people. This is treachery and unpatriotic even though intentions may be good.

Despite what is stated above, I support dialogue with Maoists. They are Indians and working for people even though in unconstitutional manner. The Maoists in Nepal ultimately came to main stream politics. What happened in Nepal may happen in India also.

There is no doubt that Maoists enjoy tremendous support in poverty-stricken and backward regions of the country and their agenda looks appealing to the people of these region and now the question is how far they would succeed in achieving their goals.I don't think they would ever succeed and ultimately have to give in to the state power.
