The BJP has stressed that coalition politics is the cause of UPA government's scams. But coalition is inevitable in view of weaknesses of the two main parties. Incidentally, besides any other shortcomings, coalition governments led by third front or United Front were free from scams. It seems that scams are integral part of congress and BJP.

I think scams also grow when a party grows.Since left parties have no growth as Congress and BJP it is not so evident.

The left front also has government in three states but they are not involved in scams like Congress/ BJP governments in Maharashtra/ Karnataka. Moreover, the U.F. (third front) governments at the center were also not involved in any scams.

The real fact is that congress and BJP are same in all respects and have mutually decided to cheat people in turn.

You have a point, they are all the same, congress or BJP, they are all out to make money for themselves and cheat the people!!

There is no doubt that coalition politics is caausing a lot of distortions in our body politic. For instance Dr. Manmohan Singh was not at all willing to accommodate Raja in his cabinet but he had give in to the wishes of Karunanidhi the DMK supremo!
But Gulshan this Raja's DMK was left aligned and when they got a chance they utilised!!

In India coalition has come as a boon to smaller parties as the leaders of these parties can push the big ones around to further their personal corrupt causes!
The bigger parties leading the coalition have to restrain the smaller parties and not accept blackmail. The coalition is based on certain programmes mutually agreed and all constituents must abide by this.

In this connection, it appears that Atal Behari Vajpayee ran coalition govt the best way. He compromised with his own party's agenda and worked on common programme. There were no scams of this type under his leadership.

It may also be recalled that congress is a party of scandals- coalition or no coalition. The Union Govt. ran well under leadership of Nehru and Shastri. Thereafter, all congress leaders have been guilty of corruption, ma;practices, scams and personal power agenda.

First, Indira Gandhi proclaimed emergency just for her personal rule as she lost parliamentary seat that she had won by adopting unfair practices. Rajiv Gandhi engineered Anti Sikh riots and indulged in Bofors scam. Narsimha Rao allowed babri Mosque demolition inn collaboration with BJP. Now under man Mohan singh, there are again scams. Coalition or no coalition, congress is a party of scams. It maybe recalled that Subramaniam Swamy has accused that Sonia Gandhi's sisters are share holders in exploits of 2G scam.

Coalition government is really a pressure driven vehicle as we see now.

Coalition is not per se bad as we have seen coalition experiments with success in various countries but in India smaller parties and independnets are a big nuisance!

I agree. This is coalition era. The smaller parties and independents are a nuisance because of big parties' vulnerability arising from greed to remain in power at all costs. Once the leading party in coalition refuses to yield at any cost at least in matter of corruption, blackmail will end. After all, small parties are as much responsible to electorate as the big parties.
