Friends,

The verdict on that piece of land where a masjid known as Babri Masjid stood and some claim it be the birth place of Lord Ram, will be out on Thursday next.I am not concerned with who is right or who is wrong but just think of kind of bloodshed this issue has seen involving loss of innocent lives - all in the name of religion! I am reminded of a great saying of Benjamin Franklin which is in the title of the thread.

Good Night,friends!

Religion should transform a Man to a good human being.People really don't get the meaning of religion.
Good Night Chinmoy. Hope to see your view on the quote in the morning. :) :) :)
Well i wonder does Franklin is questioning us are stating that it is better without it...

However without it may be bloodshed in the name of religion will not happen atleast...
Good Night Chinmoy...Good to see a quote on present religious problem...Hope to see your view..
Good Morning to all of you!

My view is that the pages of history record more bloodshed in the name of religion than any war!All the wars have had a beginning and end but this one seems to be a perpetual one!Very few people seems to imbibe the essence of it and believe that by performing a few religious rites they can attain moksha!!
Men would be saner and wiser without religion. Religion blinds our vision and creates enmity. Harivansh Rai Bachan aptly wrote in Madhushala- Mandir masjid Bair badhate- Mel badhati meri madhshala (the temple and mosque are apple of discord whereas the pub brings unity.
Yes, what you pointed out is very very timely. Not only lives but properties and others had lost a lot.
Very nice thoughts shared by Gulshan and Chinmoy. :) :) :)
Thanks Gulshan,Nagalakshmi for your responses.Although a world without religion is not conceivable I would like the pseudos to be exposed and remove form our society!
Religion does not make any body wicked or evil, but misinterpretation and misunderstanding of religion compel man to behave in foolish and immature ways.

We may not have a world without religion. But let religion not divide us. We are first human and anything else thereafter.
@Kumaresh

I am talking about that so-called religion which sanctioned Suttee system burning of widows with their husbands against which Raja Ram Mohan Roy fought and succeeded and so on!!!
If the word religion is not there, there would be something else to separate the humanity.
Religion is man invented. And now people are dying for the self invented issue.
Ohh!! I understood Chinmoy!! Thanks!!

I am strictly against to that pseudo religion where on the name of customs so many evil practices take roots and get water from so called religious leaders!!
Thanks Kumaresh! I am not talking about the beautiful tree but the wild and poisonous undergrowth of deadly weeds!!!
These so called religious leaders use religion as a mask to hide their sins and ill-activities from the world!!
But how long!! Everything has its end, so their too!!
Our social and religious reformers like Swami Dayanand,Vivekananda and Vidyasagar all they fought these in very difficult times and we too have to carry on this- may an eternal one!
So many reformers have come to make us aware of such people and stop such ill-practices. As you told, it is an ongoing war (dharmyuddh) against these Adharmik (so called religious) elements. Be the part of this war.
I think if such elements were not there then we would not have such outstanding social reformers as the ones you mentoned Chinmoy and several others!!

But all in all, bloodshed caused in the name of religions has far exceeded in numbers than anything else and its time to put a stop to this nonsense!!
Both of you are absolutely correct! We are discussing this issue in a context which requires all of us to do our bit to spread light in these gloomy hours!
