I think it's not needed since more lethal a weapon becomes more threat it is to the humanity.

They dropped the bomb at Hiroshima because they knew that there won't be a reply for it.If Japan was more empowered and had a nuclear weapon this wouldn't happen.

We definitely need strong defence. Economic self sufficiency and military strength are key to national dignity and security. Strong defence does not necessarily mean nuclear weapons' possession. Jai Jawan Jai Kissan- Grow more food and get more guns.
