Friends,

These days I have been encountering posts containing instances of atrocious grammatical errors. This site has respectable presence in many English-speaking countries.I am afraid if we are not mindful to this,we may end up creating a very sorry impression in the minds of the the visitors! What do you think?

I also think similarly, chinmoy. many users do not give any heed to write correct English. I request all to write simple and correct sentences.
Incidentally, I may point out that 'Too much liberties' does not appear correct. Better say- too much liberty.
Thanks Gulshan! Do I appear correct this time? Not only simplicity and grammatical correctness, elegance of thoughts and expressions of them should also receive due care and attention.
Thank you chinmoy for the correction and your views. still I doubt whether 'liberty'- an abstract noun can be used in plural form. However, this is relatively unimportant.
Thank you Chinmoy. We often see plural usage of joy and sorrow. So, liberties is okay. I had never before seen plural use of 'liberty'. Possibly, i am not so perfect in grammar. I know English more by practice rather than deep study. I am corrected.
Chinmoy- Surprisingly, most users on the site have not cared to consider and give their comments. Most probably, they consider it their undisputed right to take any amount of liberty with English language. So, we both are helpless.
This is principal reason which prompted me to float the topic. It seems we have to keep on reminding it more than once.
THe general standard of people's English grammar is actually quite unacceptable!!

I came across a number of polls which are totally incoorect:
eg: Have u ever drink? Have u ever smoke? ????

I am agree with you!!! :S

This one had me stymied completely:
"what u like among like to have if you are given option to have one of them"
can this be explained in plain English?? :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Such instances are one too many.I agree that there is no need to be excessively conscious about grammar and its rules but we must have the basics.
Yes Chinmoy agreed but that is what makes a language worse because we accept low standards, but that is just my opinion. At least care should taken to spell correctly or else the meaning of the word changes. Consider this:

GOD IS....>>>>...

OPtion 1. good
Option 2. batter    :S :woohoo: :woohoo:

I thought batter was either fried or baked or cooked!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Just see how the God is battered and bruised!!!
See where it leads to!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
It leads us back to the original topic which is the role of English grammar in our expressions and writing in clean and simple English. In one of my earliest threads I raised the issue but some members were not too happy about it.
I can't imagine why anyone would not be happy about something that is beneficial for their own improvement!!!  :S    :S    :S
I too have no explanations to offer in this regard as my intentions were clear enough for all to see!
Yes you are right in saying that as grammatical mistakes seriously damage the reputation and quality of the site.
