These days people are overstressed as they exert more than their actual capacity and potential and high expectations. There are many types of meditations including one suggested in the thread.
One may find relief not only from these meditations but also short trip to a hill station, partying and drinking. all these are short lived and unreal.
The solution lies in removing the causes of mental and physical stress and tensions. For physical and mental disorders, the remedy lies in consulting physicians including psychiatrists. Moreover, one should avoid stress by assessing his own potential and not set too big goals. Unreasonable expectations either from oneself or others must not be nourished lest these should be frustrated leading to mental tension.

Vipassana meditation is a process of developing positive mental factors or controlling faculties. These are – faith, effort or energy, concentration, mindfulness and wisdom.
• Attitude of care and respect in the practice of meditation.
• Maintaining continuity in awareness.
• An environment supporting meditation.
• Remembering and creating situations helpful while practicing meditation, to combat any difficulty or problem occurring during meditation.
• Cultivating qualities of the mind which would lead us towards our goal i.e. enlightenment.
• Willingness to undergo intensive meditation practices.
• Patience and perseverance in facing problems.
• A determination to continue the practices till nirvana or enlightenment is attained.
• Attitude of care and respect in the practice of meditation.

Sajeetharan- all that you have stated is available on google search. Kindly suggest some effective way to remove unnecessary mental tension and stress.

This type of meditation is supposed to be the best of all the mediation,provided it is practiced in the correct manner..
Regarding other types of effective stress relievers.. I can think of engaging in a favourite hobby etc.

I agree with @sridevi that hobbies are best way. I find music and comedy programs as great stress relievers other than hobbies.
Definetely yoga and meditation is good way..and i havent know about this Vipasanna meditation previously.Thanks to @sridevi for sharing such a useful information :)

@Gulshan, I agree with your views on commercialisation of meditation! Though meditation of any sort is an excellent way to destress yourself, it may not really work when you are faced with pressing issues that you have mentioned.
Instead in my opinion, you need to set some time out for yourself, even 15 minutes a day is fine, which you can spend the way you want to without thinking of your job or any of the pressing situations. spending this time with your wife/husband, or your children and discussing about something new and interesting thing will work. Tickling your baby or child and watch him/her laugh usually works wonders!
For some it may be time spent reading your fav. book or listening to your fav. music! There are many ways by which you can Destress yourself!

I agree with kalyani. Diversion for some time to play with children and some hobby is okay. Over ambition, over working, unreasonable expectations that cause frustration ultimately lead to stress. Removal of these causes alone can do away with stress. Otherwise, meditation will give only temporary relief like liquor.
