I think the profound words uttered by Mark Twain are worth pondering over when it comes to discarding some of our bad habits. It is not possible and practical to discard them at one go but if the process of discarding is a slow but systematic one we may succeed.

Yes, it is true..We need to take a step at a time in removing bad habits..
A Sai babaa quote says:
“The reforming process involves the removal in daily living of bad conduct and bad habits and the practice of good conduct and good deeds.”

Thanks Sridevi for elaborating it further with the quote which very aptly sums it up!

It is aptly said- Habit is second nature. By doing anything repeatedly, we get accustomed to the act and thus habit is formed. Habits are an integral part of our personality and it is not easy to abandon these.
The best way to eliminate bad habits is to substitute. If some one is accustomed to drink in evening, he may substitute this by reading books or listening to magazines in the evening. A bad habit can be substituted with another good habit.

Very sensible suggestion coming from Gulshan! I think one needs to develop the requisite mental strength to overcome this.
