Dear Friends,

It's very sad to know that mainstream media is not giving proper attention and importance to the north-east issues. Media is neglecting the north-east region as they are not the part of the country.

Why it is so?

Why they are not getting proper place in the media?

Who is responsible for this?

Please share your views on this issue.

With best regards,
Kumaresh

For your kind information :
There are 7 states in north-east part of India.

    Mr. Kurmaresh,
I agree with you,but lot of laps are there.

    * People are majority lower studies or illiterates.

    * Most of the area is terrorist effected area high risky to cover media news.
    * Ti is not a security zone.

    * Fear that, Terrorists may killed the reporters.

    * Also transportation facility is a major problem.

    * Politicians are no interest to develop the entire area.

    * Police are no able to controlled he Law and order problem.
Whatever reasons you have given, I agreed and understood. On the contrary, I feel they should get more media coverage because of reasons mentioned.

The wounded part should get more attention.

Govt has to play a big roll in this regard.
The North East states are also known as land of seven sisters. The people living in the regions are predominantly tribal and Christian. They are more honest and sincere. The Govt, and media remember North East only when there is some insurgency. Not to speak of giving adequate attention in development and boosting tourism, The people there are subjected to torture. In Manipur, many women were ill treated and raped by Indian Army personnel. This led to women coming out naked in procession raising slogan- "Rape us".
The North East states have good potential for tourism. These should be developed.
Kumaresh, you have done a great job by highlighting this.It also explains why these states are witnessing insurgency for long years. The people living in these state feel a kind of mental alienation which leave them marginalized from our mainstream.
    Thanks Chinmoy..

According to Syed Zarir Hussain, Managing Editor of News Live TV, a leading satellite TV channel of Guwahati(Asam)

"The need of the hour is to change the Babu mentality of mainstream editors which had often ignored the northeast issues in the mainstream newspapers".
    @Kumaresh

If you look at the ownership pattern of these media houses - both electronic and print - these are owned by the business people and they have editorial policies and editors who are paid employees have to stick to the respective policies laid down by the media barons and newsworthiness of a news item is strictly based on the commercial and business parameters. In a situation like this it is no wonder the events and incidents in the North-East do not figure that prominently in their scheme of things.
Chinmoy- Your way of expression is very impressive. Indeed you have highlighted the truth of media. We have no independent press and media. These are controlled by business people and editorial policies must suit the business interests of the owners. Since the North East is not significant to big business, media pays no attention to that.
may be the Central government is also not independent but only a stooge of the big business.
Thanks Gulshan! I think when we talk about freedom of the Fourth Estate we somewhat fallaciously equate it with freeing these media barons from the sacred responsibilities of being objective and truthful. Now there is a concept which has gained currency which is known as 'embedded news'.If a person wants to carry a smear campaign against his or her adversary he can easily do so by coughing up the right money. It is also known as 'paid news'!!
Chinmoy- You have again very aptly pointed out the phenomenon of 'paid news'. In the last Lok Sabha, we had seen 'cash for query'.
All media have their own agenda. They will look only profit. So it is natural.
Abid- Not only the media but also the politicians, bureaucrats and others look for their profit. So, let us not be deceived by what we say. Only enlightened and honest citizens can change things for the better. Unfortunately, we have none.
I just want to quote Mr Syed Zarir Hussain, Managing Editor of the News Live Tv:

"It is sad to say that 80% of the top policy makers in the media had not been into the north east. They did not know what the regions look like or feel the pulse of the people. The mainstream media only wants violence and crimes story from the northeast. This is what I was once asked by an editor."
Leave alone visting the spot and verifying the authenticity of any news. With the advent of internet now we have a class of reporters and journalists who manufacture news using this revolutionary tool.
    Truly said Chinmoy..
Sitting in AC room and making news. They are the manufacturer of news...

Now media is involved such kind of condemnable activities. Media has become insensitive towards the society and nation. They are not much concern about the welfare of common man. They run behind celebrities and produces gossips.
And their unethical journalistic activities sometimes lead the government to think of measures to put some fetters on press freedom.
Media has cold storage for news!!!When and there required they will take it out and publish.Really they are directing readers now!!
