Friends,

When it comes to 'hero worship' we are second to none.Be they sportmen, politicians or any other person whom we look upon as our heroes and they tend to become demi-gods, if not living Gods!Any such attitude comes in the way of a fair and true analysis of a character. What do you think?

I totally agree with Chinmoy. Hero worship in politics, sports and all fileds is undermining our true freedom and democracy. Hero worship creates monopoly in field of art and music. we saw that Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi and Kishor Kumar monopolized the music scenerio for long. Hero worship led to dictatorship and emergency in field of politics. There is no cure until the people shed the cult of hero or personality cult and assert themselves

I think most of us develop this weakness that puts too many blinkers and clouds our evaluation and judgment. You can turn a democract into a dictator very easily by fawning at his or her feet!
Yes . its true. You are absolutely right!

Hero worship is truly destroying the freedom.

Hero worship also results in dynastic tendencies. The trend is not unique to India. This is in most south Asian countries and other not so democratic countries. . We have seen this in Pakistan. In North Korea, son of Kim Ul song, the late President, is the current ruler. In Cuba, brother of Fidel Castro is consider as likely successor. Hero worship extends to sons and daughters as well as spouses of the so called heroes.

Now the congress the grand old Indian political party has shed all traits of a democratic organization and is unabashedly indulging in dynastic politics.
We know that Rahul Gandhi himself is congress leader more because of his family background rather than personal qualities. He also selected a team consisting of sons and daughters of ineffective, deceased or ineffective aging congress leaders.

Now the latest news is from kerala. Congress leader Karunakaran in a meeting declared his daughter as political successor.

How can we accept a party as democratic organization if the successors are elected not democratically but selected through inheritance. Apparently, congress leadership is also a matter of inheritance like House, furniture and animals. any comments.

What has been established by the Gandhi-Nehru family is being replicated by other political leaders cutting across all political lines.A most scandalous and dangerous trend for Indian democracy reducing the democratic processes and culture to a mockery!
We Indians tend to take things to extreme. When we love someone we just put that person an a pedestal, e.g. being our cricketers and filmstars. And the moment they fall from grace due to some reason, we pelt stones at them. We have repeated the same story in polictics, eg. being Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, a pattern which is being repeated in most of the states now. Most recent one being Late Shri. Shankarrao Chavan's son Mr. Ashok Chavan, CM of Maharashtra who does not seem to have any of his own merits but dances only to the tunes of Smt. Sonia Gandhi.

The reason for this could be because we don't seem to learn from our past mistakes, we simply choose to forget about them. At the same time, just because a person has served the nation by his personal sacrifices, his entire family and his descendents suddenly become sacred to us and we do not look beyond them for leadership.

There has been another very dangerous tendency on the part of the Congress to glorify a particular family. If we look at the number of parks, public places named after the members of this family,it is simply mind-boggling and the Mayavati Government's penchant to instal statues and naming parks etc. could be directly attributed to this overzealous efforts on the part of Congress and a few sychophantic leaders!

I have heard that in Tami Nadu, there are many temples built for heroines to show their gratitude towards them.
