IPL's effect on Modern Day Cricket

Earlier cricket used to be played for the sake of Cricket. Then the ground or pitch used to be for a battle between  ball and bat. With the advent of new versions of cricket including IPL , the pitch has become a battleground for sledging,hurling abuses and making loads of Money.

Well, that is true that it changes lots of things in cricket. But that's player choice. I mean if their game became aggressive in all cricket by playing such t20 tournament and if they are enjoying it then it should be okay.

I only feel bad about bowlers. To have more fun, now they made more batting pitches. That is wrong thing, both should get equal chances. 

I tend to agree with Rambabu....Cricket has lost its dignity with players being auctioned off and the whole thing reeking of commercialisation, it is not a game any more.It is more like a business venture ...

Coal auction is good, spectrum auction is good,then how player auction is bad. After all, players are also a resource and entitled to get the best price for their skills. Professionalism should not be confused with commercialism. Business done fairly is a legitimate activity. thousands of persons pay to watch a well conducted tournament. It is a self sustaining model. By paying pea nuts to players and only having five day format would dignity have been maintained in today's competitive world? 

If "Business done fairly", as you said is a legitimate activity! Its good. But business done at IPL is not fair. Earlier the scandal of IPL  has been investigated and some players were banned including Srisant. Even the present version of IPL -8' there are rumors of FIXING in the air.

It really does seem very silly to see great players being auctioned off like a piece of furniture. And the way these players have allowed the game to fall to such levels is quite irritating, one of the many reasons that I have stopped following cricket, which I loved a lot at one point of time.

@Kalyani. I too stopped seeing the IPL matches since two seasons. As the charm of cricket is no more. Even in the present season, the attendance of viewers is reducing.

So cricket should have remained a five day affair with no support from viewers or advertisers.and gone the hockey and other sports way in India. Change should not be resisted. Also ew blacksheep cannot derail the IPL. I agree they should be severely punished.You have stopped seeing the IPL but have noted that viewrship is reducing.

I have not noted. Press noted. Another thing also, press noted. Yesterday  a RR  player was approached for fixing the match between RR and Punjab, the matter was brought to the notice of intelligence wing of BCCI. The news was reported in Sakshi yesterday, a Telugu daily. See the National news papers.

One swallow does not make a summer. The player himself reported the matter.

Yes. The playerhimself  reported. That I have given in the previous thread. One black sheep is enough to bring a black mark on the tournament. And it's not the first time  that black sheep were caught. Earlier Srishant was caught and banned.

Then why should I see this tourney???

One does not stop eating just because one day  there was excess salt in it.

If its for one day, presence of salt can be tolerated. Knowing the ill effects of the salt and go on consuming salty food, it's the height of foolishness.

Moreover match fixers now have more scope. I don't watch IPL matches as everything seems to be fixed they just make audience fool.

True.. I love watching cricket, so actually I still watch them. But yes they all seems fake to me as well. All emotions for them are now gone. Just watching them for time pass. 

After the first scandal of match fixing A few years ago in which Srishant and two others were banned, I stopped entirely seeing these fake IPL 

I never watch IPL and i am not much interested in it. I always watch India playing game only. People who are playing in IPL matches came to know the weakness of the person. Bowlers are the real sufferer in cricket. Most of the rules are in favor of batsmen. 

My reason for shying away from IPL is, it lost its sanity that is associated with the great game, a gentleman's game.

Well, yes there are too many unfair and bad things related with ipl.. But still I watch them at night for timepass..No more emotion games.

Cricket is not a game of tricks and manipulations. The game is known for its fairness since the days oh WG Grace, Don Bradman and down below. Even the WC is played in all fairness. After scams related with IPL a few years ago, there is no charm left in IPL.
