Certainly there are people who after earning a lot found themselves confined to bed. They thought, for whom they earned? In this process these people who earned a lot lost the simple pleasures of life. They were away from their relations. And ultimately landed in a hospital for their excess toiling. Such people think that such earnings are worthless.

I know many such people who have done hard worked just for earning money and status throughout their life but today they feel alone and the only thing they have to keep themselves busy is social media because they never took time for their family while earning money and now no one is so much attached to them.

Your earning should have a purpose. There is no use of your money if you cannot utilize in the way you wanted to.

Personally, I differentiate between work and earning. every one has something to contribute to society. earning is consequence of such contribution.  If you have already enough money and need no more, there is no reason why you should stop working. If you don't need money, just spend what you like and let the remaining lie in bank. You may either give in charity or leave for successors. However if you have already enough, you need not indulge in corrupt practices.   

There are examples of such people, who are helping the " Have nots" in various ways through trusts. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are two among many.
