social worker anna has advised that there should be direct election to Prime minister's post. This is no doubt a new idea but is a variant of presidential form of government. Even in Presidential form, you cannot avoid parliament. What I don't understand is how the directly elected P.M. can pass any bill including anna's favorite Lok Pal Bill without majority in parliament.

It would change the whole election process of our country. I think Anna should know better than that under the present constitution, it is not possible to elect a PM directly.

That is possible when all other parties agree to go for a national government, every party having their quota of ministers according to their strength and finally a voting on PM candidate In combined session of house. No party will agree to this arrangement in present situation as it stands.

Actually there is no democracy without political parties. There are different viewpoints in public. These viewpoints are like liquid that needs container in form of political parties. Usually dictators either undermine political parties or favor party less system. Ayub Khan Pakistan President had a notion of 'basic democracy' that excluded political parties. Similarly a Nepal King favored part less democracy. In our country, Indira Gandhi undermined her own party which was split by her, emergency proclaimed and her coterie rule established.

I agree, but we shall have to limit the number of political parties with no place for independent members who do nothing but support a party for their personal gains. We should change to limited number of parties (say-3 to 5) to keep politics free from corruption.

I agree. Only the recognized political parties at national level should contest the parliamentary and state level parties the assembly elections. The state level parties could be allowed to contest parliamentary constituencies by arrangement with nation level parties whose symbols they may use. There should be absolute ban on defections. Present relaxation from anti defection law when defectors exceed 1/3 should be withdrawn.

Anna is in state of confusion and coming up with a suggestion a day, ignoring the practicalities.

Actually he is not confused. Some NGOs are working for creating anarchic conditions. They get paid by foreign sources and also get awards like Magsaysay and even Nobel prize. .

So he’s aiming high. In this process he should not forget that he’s gradually losing his popularity whatever he had as the ‘Messiah of Masses.’

I think he knows this. So he first had his venue at Mumbai. Later shifted to Delhi. Now he is touring different places. In fact, rallies are also an amusement to people. No movie runs in a theater for an indefinite period. Same is with rallies that are really a matter of entertainment only.
