What is the position of Indian women in India compared to the other nations according to you

One small example tells you all - the other day one of my friends wanted to take a ban loan for the education of her son by pledging her house which is in her name and has been in her name since 20 years, after completing all the formalities, the bank manager wanted er to get a his signature from her husband without which they could not sanction the loan, and her husband has left her and the children and is living his own life.So the fact of the matter is that a woman cannot eve take a loan on her own property without the permission of her husband who may even be a criminal in this blessed country of ours...

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

That is so distressing and ridiculous, and in a country where many hi-profile leading banks have women as presidents and chief financial officers!!! Your friend should file a suit against the bank,. when she is so perfectly capable of paying back the loan, they cannot deny loan to her! Most rules related to bank loans are really stupid!

It needs be seen whether bank refused loan only because she is a woman. The main criterion in sanctioning loan is income of the borrower. If the borrower can mortgage house but has no viable income, bank will be reluctant to sanction loan.

That definitely does not seem to be the case. Usha has already stated that the husband has left her and she is living on her own, supporting her children. She also has her house registered in her name as collateral so why ask for her husband's signature to approve the loan??? THIS is what is upsetting!

Yes Kalyani, she is self employed and has also rented out a portion of her house, so she can take care of the initial pay back which is the interest, after which once her son gets a job he takes care of paying he loan back, she approached SBI and they said that unless the husband signs they simply cannot sanction the loan whether she has a job or not r is capable of paying back the interest .....

This is a glaring case of open discrimination based on gender, I feel very strongly that she seek proper counsel but then that would be a waste of time!

Yes it definitely would be a waste of time since SBI is a nationalised bank and other banks look up to it for guide lines. ...

I agree that she may not be able to afford a legal battle. But she can definitely send her case to women commission as this is a case of gender discrimination.
