Not at all, this would only help those investors to earn the share of revenue and exploit Indian economics. The Indian government has taken this step under the pressure of big ones to open our markets for their benefit while they are blocking us in every possible way. This move would be like inviting East India companies on mass scale.
FDI in retail is definately desirable. I don't understand the reason behind politican parties disagreement with this proposals.

But why should we invite FDI in retail. Retail is not a sector that would need foreign participation. we have innumerable retail sellers in every street.
Modernisation is very important. FDI can change Indian market. It will give new look.
I have read in today's news headlines that Akhilesh Yadav, CM of UP is also against FDI intervention.

Retail is routine. We do not need any foreign capital for that. We should invite FDI where we actually need.

Moreover FDI will lead to generation of a number of employment opportunities for the citizens too.

Totally with you on this Sunil. This will just make or Indian Vendors miserable.. These MNC's are going bad on us and govt. is letting them taking controll..
FDI in retail is to be implemented by state governments. They are only enabled but there is no compulsion to bring FDI. So, what is the harm? If any state feels that FDI is unnecessary, they will not implement.

We have seen the harm in other forms, when governments allowed big retailers to open their store in different states. he life was almost paralyzed as long they did not closed their stores and ran away. This was more so in smaller towns. I think this is the reason they have decided to open in cities with population over one million. Although opposition parties would leave no stone unturned to see them go.

I personally am all for it since there is bound to be accountability now given the past history of East India Company ! It may be a good idea because our own national carriers retail manufacturers might become more professional and competitive since they have to come upto the International standard ..

That may raise the standards but you know it better that England is one of the richest countries because we are the main contributors. They owe it all to us.

That was history and we let it happen for which we have to take most of the blame .... but as of now their economy is still in a state of recession and I am sure they will be glad to come to India , that should help both of us ...

To be frank our present day system gives them more opportunities to exploit even more than British period. The multinationals know all the tricks of the trade to sell aerated water far costlier than milk and unnecessary items for fat higher prices.

You think so? I am sure a few of our patriotic politicians too might actively participate as partners with them. However, I feel that they may not open up completely since as of now it is only 49% being offered to them and the majority will be held by Indians , the same oes for Walmart which has come in partnership ...
It will bring the consumer relief but Govt. should think about the small shopkeeper of the local area. What will they do?Many will become jobless.

This is a matter of concern. But we have seen that most people do not go to malls and instead favor the street retailers. The foreign outlets will not open retail shops in every street and corner. The traditional retailer next door can simply not be uprooted.
although the major political parties in West Bengal including ruling Trinmool and opposition Left Front oppose FDI in retail, there is divided public opinion among farmers, traders and consumers.

I too feel the same, that local produce and shops can never be uprooted because people are used to them .Stuff like vegetables grown locally which are available at a lesser cost than what is available at food stores has its own market , similarly other things that are locally made.I also feel that even though the markets are going to open up to foreign investments it would be monitored and certain checks and balances put in place...
