I don't understand why teenagers go to such party and have drugs and alcohols. They are mature enough to understand the good and bad. Fun is not important than their life and positive future.

Peer pressure may be considered a reason for it as youngsters frequently adopt such habits in order to built their image in the among their friends.

These children belong to super rich families of industrialists, businessmen and professionals. They are not bothered about their future career as this is almost secured in their parents' accumulated capital and business empire. Their parents are too busy and have no time for their children. In this connection, let me cite example of Rahul Mahajan son of late Pramod Mahajan, prominent BJP leader. .

Mostly it is true, but many children in this particular party were from middle class families and the money for the party was sought under false reasons!

That is shocking, but having said that it has become a very common feature these days and there is something drastically wrong with the system itself.Instead of blaming the west , which of course has this culture , we too need to do some introspection....For middle class children it is mostly peer pressure and upping their " status " within the friend circle !!!

The real problem with many is that the youth don't like to be labelled as unclejis and behenjis. The fear of being tagged uncool leads them into these kind of activities where they blindly follow an activity without using their brains.

It matters a lot to youngsters to be able to feel a sense of belonging to their peers. And if the peers are much more well dressed and do all the cool things that a teenager is supposed to do, they strive even more to achieve those very characters in themselves. And if it means drinking alcohol and doing substance abuse, then so be it!! :(

I suppose you are right !But I would think that with more openness coming into the society and people following westernised values would have no age hang ups...I guess it is a bit of culture shock, not being comfortable on either side, so trying to fit in...What they need is some good talking to and good sense driven into them...no pojnt in dragging them to prisons and beating them up and putting them to shame, makes matters worse ...

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Rave parties are common now a days as youth are enjoying their life in these type of parties. We can see there are many high qualified children in these parties.

I think that is indeed the case! Also, what I feel is that most middle class families are also now earning well, at least more than a decade back. Most parents are also working in IT and BPO sectors and they too fall prey to the uber cool factor, mostly it is the case of not knowing how to deal with all the availability of money and more than at least a 100 sources of entertainment. The parents are themselves confused and so the children are unable to understand difference between really cool and correct things!

Kalyani, I feel that our society has faced a fast paced culture change and the middle class population is unable to come to terms with it as quickly ! My son was telling me about a case in Bangalore - At one of the college parties he attended, a few very quiet and timid students apparently got drunk and went and started teasing and pulling a couple of foreigners who were guests at the party. The girls got so annoyed that one of them slapped one the boys who was misbehaving with them ...Some of the faculty who did not attend the party couldnt believe that those boys were capable of behaving in such a manner !

Exactly! A very fast-paced change of the kind that is totally different from what you are used to does leave many disconcerted enough to allow to adapt oneself to the changes properly or naturally. I too have seen such changes in many, while I was working, our company used to throw frequent such [parties, where liquor was freely available to guys. It also becomes a matter of how much free liquor you can down without having to pay form your own pockets. Teenagers do not develop devices to deal with such situations prudently and hence many fall prey and get addicted early on. And not having parents around helps the downfall much more speedily!
