The Comptroller & Auditor General of India has adversely commented on allocation of coal blocks to private properties leading to heavy loss to exchequer.

The Union Government has criticized the C & A.G saying that he has exceeded his brief.

The union cabinet conveniently forgets that C & A G is not just a book keeper or calculating machine. He is also not ordinary chartered accountant who should examine records only as directed. He hiold a constitutional post and is appointed just like a supreme Court judge. Government may accept or reject his report but is not justified to say that he exceeded his brief. T C&G is entitled to examine all aspects that have bearing on revenue and expenditure of the state. If any rules are broken or irregularities committed, he certainly can point out these.

    Another scandal rocking the nation! I am sick to my stomach the way the Congress fire-fighters have launched a vicious campaign against the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. And they do so every time a scandal puts the party on the defensive. Let us remember here that this is a Constitutional post and the incumbent owes a duty to the nation- not a particular government!

    The Comptroller & Auditor General of India plays a key role in the functioning of the financial committees of Parliament and the State Legislatures. He has come to be recognised as a 'friend, philosopher and guide' of the Committee.

    C & A. G is accused of adding zeroes meaning thereby that he is exaggerating.

    We cannot find fault with C & A. G. He has to exercise his own judgment in submitting his report. However leakage of his report before submission to P.A.C. and its press coverage is bad. It is seen that these days, many authorities needlessly go to press and media. In another case, Delhi police tweeted on twitter about likely arrest of a minister. The bureaucrats and other authorities must do their work with decorum and not be publicity hungry.

    C & AG report has provided opposition with a rare opportunity to attack government. P.M. was himself involved in the coal mines irregularities. Hence, his resignation is demanded.

    Now Government is on offensive on opposition demand for P.M. resignation. The government holds that there is no loss. what the C & G reported is just presumptive.

    Government could be correct. But the concerned authorities should have given proper reply to C & G department at initial stage itself so that the objection could be dropped. Then the objection was to be routed to P.A.C. through government and this should not have been prematurely leaked. Still it is for P.A.C. to discuss the report and adopt or reject this with proper reasons. There appears no sense in disrupting parliamentary proceedings.

    While stalling the proceedings of the House can't replace a well-informed debate one the issue, it is clear enough that Manmohan has lost all moral authority to remain in his position as PM. He can hang on to his chair as long as he likes but the history would remember him as one of the weakest one who did not care to listen to the voice of his own conscience!

    Actually losses should be controlled any how in India. The abnormal price rise is because of one of these reasons. Coal is essential for carrying out many activites. It is exhaustible natural resource. Government should give fair judgement regarding this matter.

    I don't think that resignation of PM would end such stories. They are adicted with corruption. One will resign, other would start. They have 101 ways of committing such sins.

    I agree. There can never be an end. There has been corruption- less or more always. There have been many scandals. I remember one 'Mundhra scandal' which was probably in sixties. Now corruption appears more because of more possibilities in view of advancement in telecommunication and other sectors. Also the amount involved is more in view of inflation. Rsl one lakh is fifties is more than one crore at today prices. We ignore this fact while viewing size of amount in scams.

    Here the issue is of C & G report. The government does not agree with the report. So, there is need to debate. But the opposition insists on PM's resignation and wants no debate.

    Keeping away from Parliament is not at all a sensible way to expose the government and its head. Resignation was the course preferred by morally sensitive politicians and ministers of early decades. I came to know that Lal Bahadur Shastri resigned as Railways Minister on a mishap issue. But these days not too many ministers are there with such moral sensibilities!!
