Latest trend of Gold ornaments is 916 BIS Hallmarked. We will get the present market price of gold only if it's 916 Hallmarked and all jewelleries accept them, if ornaments have that 'mark'. Each time, new standards are coming to market. Yet are we sure enough that we are getting 91.6% pure gold?
Or are we just thinking, we will get the market price when we sell it .....so no need to bother about its purity. What's your opinion?

Actually, it's told, people are cheated by this way of hallmarking as people are not bothered about its purity. They are interested only in its return value.

It's told people are cheated most in gold and jewellers are making high profit, as people are not thinking about its purity nowadays....they just look for standard marks on the piece of gold they buy.
Those jewellers under the association.....it's told, they won't buy gold of other jewellers from people in market rate. Only members of that group are giving 916 BIS....ie. There is a tag up between different jewellers about the purity and it's hidden only

Actually, it is being done to ensure quality. Even here in our town, there is a jewellary shop which has a reputation of selling expensive but quality products. The jewellars make some sort of identification mark in every jewellaries sold by them. If a customer wants to sell off the gold jewellaries back to them after sometime, they accept it only if the identification mark is present.

Hall mark is the government approved quality mark. This is set at 91.6 % in Indian markets which is about 22 caret.

yes, everyone are behind that hallmark.
In a corruption country like India, can we 100% believe that it contains 91.6% gold. After all, we are paying money for that quality gold. isn't it?

Only standard companies who maintain their reputation go for quality and they are market leaders on the basis of quality also the return value is assured once the hall mark is stamped. no one can deny its purity.

Do you know in our place, a customer can ask to test the purity of gold ornaments before buying!! In this case, the seller/ goldsmith would heat a portion of the ornament in front of the customer. Though I don't know much detail, it seems that if it blackens or changes color on heating than the gold is of low quality/ less pure..

Your choice but they are bound to buy back it at 91.6 rate.
My most ornaments were purchased before this 91.6 hallmark came. So, after years, it may get low resale value

Every ornament has a manufacturers seal in small print. If you look carefully you can find it and if you have a receipt of your ornaments they cannot refuse to buy them back according to sale prices that indicates the of gold amount in your ornaments.

But now everyone is complaining....they are not getting reasonable price for ornaments without that 916 mark

I will change them only for my daughter's marriage, not before that :woohoo: :woohoo:

Then you should have no problem whatsoever. But in our case we do not give mothers ornaments to daughters but daughters in law.
It has become necessary to buy hall mark gold. These are of pure gold. And when we will sell it we will get the present market value.
my husband has many customers related to gold business. They say.....though we are seeing a lot of jewellery shops now, most of the works are done outside their manufacturing centre. Later, seal is put, giving both the name of the jewellers and hallmark. i.e. We can't completely assure that a particular jewellers is giving you most pure gold......because, same workers are doing work for many jewellery shops. It's the truth

But the jeweler with his seal on it is responsible for the quality and he cannot deny its percentage or purity if the seal is once affixed.
Hallmark gold are best to buy.Though it charge is high as compared to other gold but its safe to buy it.

But the sealer himself is saying malpractice can be done ;)
In distant future, we are going to witness incidents when a particular jewellers won't accept another stores' gold ornaments in the market price.

the jeweler is bound to agree to the terms of agreement and keep the ethics of business unless he wants to admit openly that he is a cheat. Gold business is on trust so no one wants to loose the reputation of his shop.

Haven't you read my previous post
Now all jewellers are purchasing gold from outside. The manufacturer gives the seal of the jewellers later.
Here itself, many jewellers are admitting many of their items are purchased from Mumbai :cheer:

I am not concerned where the jeweler does his shopping/manufacturing but the one whose seal is there is fully responsible. If customer goes to court of law or consumer courts, he would not be entertained on his plea. He is the one who is responsible. Business has rules and ethics to follow.
As long as people get back their invested money, they won't worry. We can't predict the future. Let us see what happens in the distant future.
Do you know now a jewellers in Kerala is claiming to give gold of 917 purity?
Slowly other jewellers will also change their business strategy. Thus, in future, we may also witness 918, 919, 925 and 935. It's pure business

Hallmark 917 is standard used for 22 carat gold in international market. No one can use a substandard term to make it standardized product unless he gets an order to do so by a particular customer.
