Last week there was an earthquake in Chile. After the earthquake got over, one more disaster followed...Looting..Here i quote a news report of washingtonpost.
"One of history's most powerful earthquakes failed to topple many buildings in Chile. But just hours after the ground shuddered on Saturday, scores of looters fanned out across this city and towns nearby. The looters ransacked clothing boutiques, tried to carry away ATMs and crashed into electronic stores, lugging out plasma televisions and stereos."
How do you think, we Indians will behave after such a disaster occur.
If my memory is correct, once a news came of how a whole village in Punjab helped people who met with a train accident. Not only they helped in the rescue work, with the lights from their tractors, but they provided food, clothes and everything to the people.
Proud to be an Indian :)
What makes this difference?.In both places there is need of money.
What is your opinion?

The contrast with help to victims of train accident in Punjab with the looting in Chile is apt. However, human nature is unpredictable. In India also both types of reactions- good and bad happen. There are many instances where the victims are looted while in other cases, they are helped. Let us hope our people will always follow the good example in Punjab village.
i agree with both of you..But in my opinion, if we take most cases, in general, Indians are much more civilized .When hurricane Katrina hit america, similar to Chile, violence and looting was reported.
Of course in India also small looting will take place,But compared to other countries, its negligible i think..

Yes MC I do agree that the response in India on the part of the people to such emergencies has been truly exemplary. I know of several such instances where the local administration failed to rush with help to the spot of disasters but the local people irrespective of the financial status, caste and creed magnificently plunged into relief activities and those instances are truly heart-warming.
